oral thrush is a common fungal infection in and around the mouth of children. Thrush is very common in the first two years of life. Oral thrush is in the form of white spots. Thrush is a fungal infection of the throat, tongue or oral mucosa. In bad cases, it can also spread to the esophagus. Oral thrush is mostly caused by a fungal yeast called Candida albicans. We all have this yeast in our body and our immune system keeps it in balance with other bacteria and fungi in our body. If the balance is disturbed, the yeast can multiply and cause an infection. Things that can upset the balance are:
Medicines such as corticosteroids and antibiotics Weakness of the body's immune system due to medical conditions or drug treatment
Poorly controlled type 1 and 2 diabetes Some babies pick up oral thrush when they pass through their mothers' vaginas. This is because the vagina often has a small amount of Candida naturally.
Also, babies may get oral thrush if they suck on objects contaminated with thrush, such as nipples, pacifiers.

Symptoms oral thrush:
If your child has oral thrush, you may notice white, cheese-like patches on the tongue, inner cheeks, lips, gums, or roof of the mouth. These pieces do not come off with gentle pressure. If the spots are removed, red and inflamed areas remain that can bleed.
A child with oral thrush may also have cracks and redness in the corners of his mouth.

Prevention of oral thrush:
You can do several things to prevent oral thrush:
If you bottle feed your baby, sterilize the pacifier and bottle after each use.
If you are breastfeeding, gently clean your nipple between feedings.
If your baby gets diaper rash, make sure you treat it properly.
Use antibiotics only when necessary and prescribed by a pediatric specialist for your child.
If your child has asthma, make sure to rinse your mouth with water after taking asthma medications.
If your child has diabetes, maintain blood sugar control as much as possible.
Wash the clothes at 60 degrees Celsius to get rid of the fungus.

If you think your child has thrush, be sure to take him to your pediatrician.
