grinding teeth is a term for grinding teeth or clenching the jaws. Teeth grinding often occurs during deep sleep stages or when children are under stress. According to research, this condition is reported more in boys than in girls. Improper alignment of teeth or abnormal contact between the lower and upper teeth, nutritional deficiencies, anxiety and stress problems of children, parasites of the digestive system, allergies, etc. are among the causes of this disorder. This behavioral complication is related to mental stress that the child had during the day and causes teeth grinding in sleep at night. There is no medical treatment for grinding teeth, it is recommended that children do not use caffeinated substances such as chocolate and tea at night. According to new research, if teeth grinding is caused by stress and nervous disorders this condition will be resolved by the age of 12 and parents should place their child under the supervision of a specialist doctor in terms of dental health.
Causes of teeth grinding:
Experts are not always sure why teeth grinding occurs. In some cases, children may have misaligned upper and lower teeth. Children may pull their teeth as a way to relieve pain, just as they might rub a muscle.
Stress – usually nervous tension or anger – is another cause. For example, a child may be worried about a school test or a change (new sibling or new teacher). Even arguments with parents and siblings can cause enough stress to trigger teeth grinding or jaw clenching.
Some hyperactive children also have teeth grinding. And sometimes children who have other medical conditions (such as cerebral palsy) or people who take certain medications can have teeth grinding.
Many cases of teeth grinding go undetected without any complications, while others cause headaches or earaches. But usually the sound related to teeth grinding (Bruxism) is more annoying for other family members.
In some cases, grinding and squeezing tooth enamel can cause enamel loss, increased sensitivity to temperature, and severe facial pain and jaw problems such as temporomandibular joint disease (TMJ).
Many children who grind their teeth are not even aware of it, so it is often siblings or parents who recognize the problem.
If your child makes heavy noises while sleeping.
Complaining of jaw or face pain after waking up in the morning
It hurts to chew
And if you think your child is grinding their teeth, see a pediatrician and dentist, who will examine the teeth for chipped enamel and unusual wear.
If you see an injury, your child's dentist or doctor may ask your child some questions, such as:
How do you feel before you sleep?
Are you worried about something at home or school?
Are you angry with someone?
What do you do before you sleep?
This examination helps the dentist and child specialist to see whether the cause is anatomical (disordered teeth) or psychological (stress) and provide an effective treatment plan. Treatment of grinding teeth
In cases where rubbing and squeezing the child's face and jaw is painful or damages the teeth, dentists may prescribe a special night guard.

Grinding teeth at night: In this case, the dentist will make a device called "Night Guard" for you, which is a type of movable prosthesis made of resistant plastic, which is made by molding a person's teeth and you have to put it in your mouth at night. This device prevents incorrect and harmful pressure on the teeth. Of course, in many cases, the use of this device has gradually reduced and eliminated the habit of teeth grinding at night. The price of this device is not very expensive and its use is necessary to prevent the consequences of grinding teeth.

Helping children with teeth grinding Whether the cause is physical or psychological, children may manage teeth grinding by relaxing before bed - for example, by taking a warm shower or bath, listening to a few minutes of soothing music, or reading a book.
For stress-induced teeth grinding, ask about what's bothering your child and find a way to help.
If the issue is more complicated, such as moving to a new city, discuss your child's concerns and try to ease any fears. If you are concerned, talk to your child's doctor.
