Usually sixty percent of healthy babies develop jaundice after birth, and in cases where the baby is premature, this case reaches eighty percent. Of course, sometimes jaundice in a baby is low, which cannot be easily detected, and only by testing can you know whether the baby's "bilirubin" is normal or not, which is a common case. Sometimes the red blood cells are crushed and this causes the baby to become anemic after some time, for example a few weeks. Sometimes the incompatibility of mother and baby (mother with blood type O, baby with blood type A or B, which is called ABO incompatibility) or the existence of sub-blood groups (difference between the blood group of mother and baby, which is less common), as well as "favism", which is common in our country, can cause jaundice. All these issues can cause anemia in the future. For this reason, the doctor must be completely alert and monitor the anemia of the baby. Also, as a result of the condition, jaundice may increase quickly, and therefore it is very important to see a doctor quickly. Sometimes jaundice occurs because the baby does not breastfeed well. Well, not breastfeeding can be due to the mother's lack of proper and complete training, which can eventually cause jaundice and other problems. BeTreatment:If the jaundice number (total bilirubin) is not too high and the baby is healthy for a few days. Parents can do the treatment at home under the phototherapy machine. I emphasize the phototherapy device, not any lamp. The phototherapy device has a special lamp and special features that must be purchased from reliable and reliable places. These devices should be standard and its bulbs should be replaced on time. It is necessary to pay attention to the distance of the lamps from the baby's body and to have a protective lamp in case it breaks. The baby's skin should not suffer from burns or other complications. In this situation, according to the doctor's recommendation, the baby's blood test is repeated at different intervals. If the baby's condition is not good or the jaundice number is too high, it is better to be treated in the hospital. The whiteness of the eyes, body and mucous membranes should be a little sensitive. If only the head and face are affected with jaundice and the chest, abdomen and organs are not yellow, it means that the jaundice number is not high, but the lower the jaundice is, it means that the amount of jaundice is increasing, and the more it reaches the legs, the more alarming the jaundice number is. Jaundice is divided into 2 types: direct and indirect jaundice. What often happens in newborns is indirect jaundice that can damage the brain tissue. Direct jaundice is not a problem unless the baby has an infection or liver problem. Of course, jaundice is not always the only symptom. If, along with jaundice, there are other symptoms such as lethargy or not feeding well or high and low body temperature, the risk is higher and the doctor should be referred more quickly. Therefore, there should be no concern in this matter unless jaundice starts very early in the baby or its amount increases. In a newborn, jaundice may extend to the second or third month and the recovery period will be longer. If a test is done and it shows that the baby does not have any special problem, it is not a reason for discomfort.
In most of the babies who develop jaundice, even those whose jaundice passes the physiological stage and the jaundice numbers in them are high, the disease is not worrying, but a pediatrician should definitely be consulted. #000000;">If the intensity of jaundice is high and its number increases rapidly and the parents do not show the baby to a specialist doctor quickly, jaundice may cause brain problems in the baby. In this case, jaundice can penetrate some areas of the brain and cause all kinds of brain problems, cerebral palsy or other problems. Jaundice, while it is a common problem and happens to a large number of babies, does not cause any problems if it is treated on time. But if it is not treated on time, it will be a problem.
Blood exchange:The amount of jaundice and the intensity in which the need for blood exchange is found is different according to the age of the child and whether he is premature or mature. If this jaundice number rises above a certain level, or the rate of increase of jaundice is very fast, or there is an underlying disease in the baby, blood exchange is needed.
If the baby is healthy and can tolerate high levels of jaundice, there will be no problem for him, but if the baby has an infection, is premature, the acid-base balance of his blood is disturbed, or his blood oxygen is insufficient, etc., there is a need for blood exchange. In any case, when the baby is sick, treatment should be done as soon as possible for his jaundice.
