Myopia is a refractive error, which means that the eye cannot refract or reflect light properly to focus on a focal point and see images clearly. Near objects appear clear, but distant objects appear blurry.

Excessive reading, computer use, and needlework are common examples of external factors that may contribute to myopia.

• Always make sure that the light in the room is sufficient to prevent eye fatigue during close work.
• Speak to an ophthalmologist before symptoms become severe.
• If you are more at risk of myopia, see an eye doctor annually.
• If you work at the computer all day, rest your eyes frequently during the day, for example look out the window.
