Liver cyst; Symptoms, diagnosis and treatment
Liver Cyst is a bag filled with fluid that forms in the liver tissue. Most of these cysts are benign and asymptomatic and are usually discovered incidentally in liver ultrasound or CT scan. Types of liver cysts 1. Non-infectious: simple cyst, polycystic cyst, cystadenoma, complex cysts
2. Infectious: Hydatid cyst caused by Echinococcus parasite
Symptoms of liver cyst
Most patients have no symptoms, but some people may have the following symptoms:
Pain or pressure in the right and upper abdomen
Feeling of fullness or Bloating
Nausea, loss of appetite
Fever or jaundice (in case of infection or bleeding inside the cyst)
Diagnosis of liver cyst
Ultrasound (primary and common method)
CT scan or MRI to check More detailed
Blood test to check liver function and rule out co-morbidities
Liver cyst treatment
Most cysts do not need treatment and only periodical follow-up is sufficient. In large, symptomatic, infectious or suspicious cases of malignancy, treatments such as evacuation or surgery are performed. 12
