The papillary dermis is the uppermost layer of the dermis, which is the second layer of the skin below the epidermis. It consists of loose connective tissue and contains Blood Vessels, are lymphatic vessels and sensory nerve endings. The papillary dermis also contains small ridges called papillae that connect with similar ridges in the overlying epidermis to form ridges that make up fingerprints.
In addition, papillary dermis plays an important role in regulating body temperature and supplying nutrients to surrounding tissues.
