13 weeks pregnant: symptoms, tips and more
At 13 weeks, you enter the final days of your first trimester....After the first trimester, the miscarriage rate drops significantly....Also, a lot will happen this week for you and your baby....Here's what you can expect:
Your physical changes
When you enter the second trimester of pregnancy, as more hormones are produced by the placenta, hormone levels decrease.
Your belly will start to rise and come out of your pelvis... If you haven't started wearing maternity clothes yet, you can feel more comfortable with the extra space and stretch of maternity clothes.
Your child
At 13 weeks, your baby has grown to about the size of an ear of peas....your baby's intestines, which have grown in the umbilical cord for the past two weeks, are moving back into the belly....the tissue around your baby's head, arms, and legs is slowly turning into bone....your baby has even started to urinate from your baby's urine....urine from now until the end of pregnancy.
In the next few weeks (usually 17-20 weeks) you will probably be able to find out the gender of your baby by ultrasound.... If you have an antenatal visit, you will need to hear the heart beat using a doppler machine.... You can buy one for home, but be aware that it is difficult to use...
Twins growing at 13 weeks
At the end of this week, you've reached the second trimester!.. This week your babies are about 4 inches long and weigh just over 1 ounce each.. The tissue that will eventually become their arms and legs and the bones around their heads are forming this week... Your little ones will also start peeing in the amniotic fluid that surrounds them.

Symptoms of pregnancy in week 13
In the 13th week, you will notice that your previous symptoms have faded and you may be in a comfortable position before fully entering the second trimester of pregnancy.... If you still have nausea or fatigue, you can expect these symptoms to subside in the coming weeks.
You may also experience these symptoms:
- fatigue
- Energy increase
- round ligament pain
- Fluid leakage from the breasts
- More energy
Besides the rotator cuff pain and continued symptoms in the first trimester, you feel energized....some call the second trimester the "honeymoon period of pregnancy" because most symptoms disappear....before you know it, you'll be entering the third trimester with new symptoms like swollen knees, back pain, and restless sleep.
Round ligament pain
During this time, your uterus continues to grow rapidly....you should be able to feel the top of it just above the pelvic bone....as a result, you may have a sharp pain in your lower abdomen when you stand up quickly or change position quickly, which is called round ligament pain...
Breast Leakage
Your breasts are also changing....from the second trimester you start producing colostrum, which is a precursor to breast milk....The colostrum is bright yellow or orange, thick and sticky....You may notice fluid leaking from your breasts from time to time, but if you don't have pain or discomfort, this is a completely normal part of pregnancy
..Things you can do this week to have a healthy pregnancy
It's never too late to start healthy eating habits that nourish your body and your baby....Focus on whole foods that contain lots of vitamins, minerals and good fats...Whole grain toast with peanut butter is a surefire way to start the day....Fruits rich in antioxidants, like berries, are great snacks....Try lean proteins from beans, eggs and oily fish in your meals..Include...just Remember to avoid the following:
- Seafood rich in mercury
- Raw seafood, including sushi
- Uncooked meats
- Sliced meats sold in cold sandwiches... These foods are generally considered safe if you heat them up before eating them
- Unpasteurized foods that include many soft cheeses
- Unwashed fruits and vegetables
- Raw eggs
- caffeine and alcohol
- some herbal tea
Exercise is also recommended if your doctor allows it... walking, swimming, running, yoga and light weight lifting are all great options... At 13 weeks you should look for alternatives to abdominal exercises like sit-ups... Weight gain from the uterus can reduce blood flow and reduce blood flow to the heart. My dear.
When to call your doctor
Always call your doctor if you have pelvic or abdominal cramping, spotting, or bleeding, as these could be signs of a miscarriage. Also, if you have anxiety, depression or excessive stress, it is better to get help..
In the second trimester of pregnancy
Although some books and reports disagree about the exact start of the second trimester (between weeks 12 and 14), by next week you'll be in undisputed territory... your body and your baby are constantly changing, but you're entering the most comfortable weeks of your pregnancy... make the most of it... now is the perfect time to plan any last-minute travel plans or adventures you want to embark on before your baby is born.
