Precancerous lesions are abnormal cells or tissues that have the potential to become cancer. These lesions are not yet cancerous, but may become cancerous if left untreated. Precancerous lesions can appear in different parts of the body and often during routine medical examinations or screens are discovered.
Some common types of precancerous lesions include actinic keratosis on the skin, adenomatous polyps in the colon, and Cervical dysplasia is. Depending on the location and severity of the lesion, treatment options may include surgery, drug therapy or monitoring through regular examinations.
