Mutilan arthritis is a severe and rare type of psoriatic arthritis.... This type of inflammatory arthritis causes severe damage to joints and bone tissue.
This disease is more common in people with psoriatic arthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis.... This type of arthritis first affects the joints of the hands and feet of the patients and finally leads to the S-shape of the fingers and toes.
What is mutilan arthritis?
Motilan arthritis is the most severe form of psoriatic arthritis that occurs in 5% of people with this disease.. If you suffer from this disease, the fingers and toes become shorter due to bone loss....Also, the possibility of ankylosis causes this condition together.. The severe inflammation that exists in the soft tissue of the joint and Bones are damaged and can lead to joint deformities, movement problems, and bone loss.
What is the cause of this disease?.. This disease occurs when the body's immune system attacks the healthy tissues and cells of the body, this condition causes inflammation of the joints as well as excessive production of skin cells.
Why the immune system suddenly attacks healthy cells and tissues can be due to environmental or genetic conditions... It is known that many people with this disease have a family with the disease and it happened genetically.
What are the symptoms?
If you have these symptoms, you may have mutilan arthritis:
- Severe swelling of hands and feet and joint pain
- fusion of hand and foot bones together
- Presence of skin lesions before the development of arthritis
- Creating changes in the nail such as color change or thickening and lifting from the nail site
This disease usually occurs in people aged 40 to 50.. but there is a possibility of it occurring in other age groups such as children and adults.
How is it diagnosed?
Since this disease includes a wide range of symptoms, it is not easy to diagnose.. It is estimated that more than half of people with this disease are not diagnosed.
The criteria for diagnosing this disease is that you must have inflammatory arthritis in your body, which includes the following:
- spine
- joints
- connective tissue between bones, tendons and ligaments
The doctor will determine if you have mutilan arthritis by asking such questions:
- Do you currently have psoriasis or not.
- Do you have a history of psoriasis or a family history of this disease? - Have you experienced nail changes such as thickening of the skin under the nail or lifting of the nail?

- Having at least three painful and swollen joints for more than six months
- History of psoriasis

What is the treatment?
