The presence of a calcified mass in the pelvis is known as **calcium deposits in the pelvis**.. Calcium deposits in the pelvis are oval or round and usually have a diameter of 2 to 5 mm.. Calcium deposition or phlebitis refers to small calcifications that are inside the veins....This condition first starts as a blood clot and hardens with calcium over time. This condition occurs in many parts of the body.. but the pelvis is the most commonly affected part.. Calcium deposition in the pelvic area is a relatively common condition.. It is estimated that it occurs in approximately 35% of adults over the age of 40. Read more: Diseases that lead to hip pain Symptoms of pelvic calcium deposition Often this complication does not cause a problem.... If you feel pain in the pelvic area, it is probably caused by other problems such as varicose veins, which should be checked for diagnosis and treatment. Sometimes varicose veins are also known as a sign of calcium deposits in the pelvis... A varicose vein is an enlarged vein filled with blood. These veins look swollen as well as raised and have a blue or purple color, which is sometimes very painful. What is the cause of calcium deposits in the pelvis? Calcium deposition in the pelvic region occurs when pressure is applied to the vein....the pressure causes a blood clot to form, then the blood clot becomes calcified over time....the conditions that lead to increased pressure in the vein are the following possible cases: - Straining caused by constipation - Cough - varicose veins - Pregnancy Calcium deposits in the pelvis may be caused by an abnormal disease called venous malformation, which leads to abnormal growth of veins. These vessels are stretched or enlarged over time.... Blood circulation is very slow and as a result blood clots are formed, which over time causes calcium deposition or phlebitis. Who are at risk of calcium deposits in the pelvis?.. People over 40 years old are more at risk of contracting this disease.... This disease probably increases with age.... Other factors that increase the probability of this complication are as follows: - Diverticulitis - Long-term consumption of low-fiber diet and processed foods - Pregnancy - Mafucci syndrome (rare disease) How is calcium deposition in the pelvis diagnosed? If you have seen a pain specialist for pelvic pain, your doctor may run tests to rule out other conditions, such as kidney or ureteral stones. A ureteral stone is a type of kidney stone that moves through the tubes that connect the kidneys to the bladder. The doctor will also look at your medical and family history and ask you about your symptoms... Next, a physical examination may also be done. Imaging tests are used to help diagnose such conditions: - X-ray - MRI - sonography - CT scan On X-ray images, calcium deposits appear as white or light round spots with a clear center, which helps the doctor distinguish them from ureteral stones. In many cases, calcium deposits in the pelvis are sometimes discovered incidentally on an X-ray or CT scan of the legs or pelvis due to unrelated problems. How to treat calcium deposits in the pelvis Since this condition is asymptomatic, you probably do not need to treat it.. But in general, the treatment strategies that are considered for this condition are as follows: ### home remedies If you're experiencing pain in your pelvic area, your doctor may recommend over-the-counter pain relievers....Also, you can apply a warm, damp cloth to the area a few times a day to help relieve the pain. Special compression stockings also help relieve the pain of varicose veins and prevent the accumulation of blood clots... If the pain does not go away or worsens, be sure to see a doctor. ### Treatment of varicose veins If calcium deposits in the pelvis are painful along with varicose veins, the doctor may recommend a treatment option called sclerotherapy. During sclerotherapy treatment, a saline solution is injected into a vein. This solution irritates the lining of the vessel and eventually destroys it. ### Treatment of venous malformation Most vascular malformations require treatment to reduce pain and swelling. The treatment options for this disease are as follows: ### embolization This is a minimally invasive procedure that closes abnormal blood vessels from the inside. ### laser therapy In this method, a laser is used to reduce the deformation of the skin. Read more: What is hip labral tear?. ### Sclerotherapy In this method, a substance is injected to stimulate the vessel wall and also to fix abnormalities. ### Surgery If none of the treatments work, you may eventually need surgery to remove the calcium deposits in your pelvis. Surgery is usually the last treatment option that is considered for you. Can calcium deposition be prevented? Not all cases related to this complication can be prevented... However, having a diet rich in fiber and less processed foods helps prevent constipation and ultimately calcium deposits in the pelvis... In addition, you can take steps to help prevent blood clots in your blood vessels. A few ways to help prevent blood clots: - Doing daily sports exercises - Daily use of aspirin - keeping the body hydrated - To help lower blood pressure, be careful with salt and sugar consumption - Avoid wearing tight clothes
