Laparoscopy is the opposite of open surgery, which can only be done by making two or three small incisions in the abdomen. The laparoscopic method has been popular since 100 years ago to diagnose diseases and treat problems in the abdomen and pelvis of patients. All the fear and discomfort of open surgery is due to the creation of a large and deep gap that is created and has consequences whose effects remain on the body to a large extent. Although the patient's final decision to choose surgery is made at the doctor's discretion, it is necessary to state the reasons for the superiority and differences of these two methods. Small scar in laparoscopy It can be said that the most important advantage of this method is the smallness of the scar, which accelerates the patient's recovery compared to open surgery. Small wounds half to one centimeter heal faster and do not leave scars. On the other hand, the patient faces less pain, which means that he can return to his normal activities faster in a few days. Meanwhile, in open surgery, the patient needs several weeks of time and hospitalization to recover. ### Reduction of pelvic and abdominal adhesions in surgery Adhesion is a common complication of abdominal and pelvic surgery, which leads to many complications such as intestinal obstruction, great pain, and impaired fertility. Therefore, doctors try very hard to reduce the amount of post-operative adhesion with their surgical art so that it does not cause the above side effects. Laparoscopic surgery has the advantage that due to the significant reduction in the connection of body organs and tissues with the external environment and surgical devices, the adhesion level of the operation is reduced to the minimum level. Less infection, the wounds are small and during the operation, body tissues have little contact with the outside environment, so the risk of infection is greatly reduced. - Less patient pain - Reduction of hospitalization time - Better vision of the surgeon regarding the internal organs - Maintaining the beauty of the patient's body from scars and reducing skin discomfort In addition to all these things, please note that **laparoscopy** has performance limitations. The method of performing this operation is longer than open surgery due to the delicacy and precision it requires, and the gas that is blown into the abdomen to perform this procedure can be dangerous for people with breathing problems and certain heart diseases. Therefore, this method is not recommended for these people and has limited implementation unless the attending physician sees a problem in its implementation.
