Reasons that cause the need for tooth extraction

We all remember the loss of a baby tooth, but perhaps few of us have ever had to have a tooth extracted in our lifetime. The question that arises is When does a tooth need to be pulled? Should there be a special reason for pulling a tooth?

The answer is yes, permanent teeth are one of the most vital parts of the body and should only be removed if there are important reasons. When is this done and what are the reasons for tooth extraction? Together, we will review the most important factors here.

1. Correcting wrong teeth

The first answer to the question, when does a tooth need to be pulled? It is that your tooth has been repaired incorrectly. If you have visited an inexperienced dentist, he may not be able to solve the tooth problem completely during the restoration process. As a result, even after the treatment period, you feel pain and discomfort.

By returning to another dentist, you will realize that you need a deep tooth restoration, but there is not enough space for this. Therefore, if the dentist does not find any solution to the tooth problem, there is no other option but to extract it. So it is better to consult an experienced dentist first.

2. Periodontitis diseases

Another reason for tooth extraction is gum disease. Gum diseases or periodontitis are such that the gum is inflamed and as a result bacteria enter the interior of the gum. If this bacteria is not treated quickly, it can destroy the tissues around the tooth.

As a result, there is no choice but to pull the tooth. We recommend that you visit a dentist in case of any changes or pain and swelling in the mouth.

3. Severe tooth infection

Infection can enter the mouth in different ways. From all kinds of viral and bacterial diseases to eating contaminated food, they lead to infection. If infection and dental plaques accumulate in the mouth, the tooth should be extracted.

Treatment of tooth infection At the right time, it prevents the destruction of the tissue around the tooth, and it is possible to restore tooth health with a period of medication and special care.

4. Irreparable tooth decay

Since there are methods such as restoration, in case of decay why should you pull the tooth? Some decays can be repaired if you act at the right time. This is despite the fact that some types of caries cannot be treated easily and the tissue surrounding the tooth is so damaged that there is no other option but extraction.

5. Extraction of milk teeth

Some people's milk teeth do not fall out easily and remain for years after adulthood. These people have to pull their baby teeth to make room for permanent teeth. Extracting milk teeth is not at all similar to permanent teeth and is very comfortable.

6. Doing orthodontics of teeth

All orthodontic applicants do not need tooth extraction. In some cases, depending on the circumstances, some people need tooth extraction in orthodontics. Factors such as the high density of teeth, the correct implementation of orthodontic procedures and maintaining the integrity of the mouth are effective in the need or lack of need for tooth extraction.

7. Crowding of teeth

crowded teeth is a situation where the number of teeth is too large compared to the space in the jaw. In this case, to create enough space in the jaw, a number of teeth must be extracted with the opinion of a specialist dentist. Extraction of teeth should be done from between the teeth, whose removal does not cause problems in swallowing and chewing food.

8. Removal of hidden and semi-hidden teeth

Sometimes some teeth, especially wisdom teeth, are embedded or partially embedded in the jaw. These model teeth are not useful for chewing, nor can they be repaired in different treatment methods. One of the most common of them is impacted wisdom teeth, which can only be removed by surgery. So, one of the reasons for tooth extraction is to remove teeth that are completely or partially hidden in the jaw.

Types of tooth extraction methods

Now that we have talked about the reasons for tooth extraction and the right time for it, we need to examine the methods of tooth extraction. What methods can a dentist use to pull a tooth?

In general, there are two methods for tooth extraction, one of which is traditional extraction and the other is dental surgery. In the following, each of these two methods will be fully explained.

Pulling teeth in a conventional and simple way

In the conventional method, there is no need for any special incision on the jaw. The dentist removes the tooth from the jaw with a special tool and using hand force. Although this method does not have any surgery or incisions, it requires the high skill of the dentist. If your dentist is not skilled in tooth extraction, a part of the tooth may remain inside the jaw and be pulled in half.

Tooth extraction through surgery

In the second method, a part of the gum is cut and the hidden or semi-hidden tooth is removed. The dental surgery process is more complicated and has a longer recovery period, and you should only eat soft and soupy foods for a few days. This is despite the fact that only a few hours of care is required in pulling teeth in a simple way.

Possible side effects after tooth extraction

Although tooth extraction is necessary in many cases, it has its side effects in any case. By knowing these complications, you can prepare yourself for it in advance:

  1. Existence of a lot of pain and inflammation in the gums
  2. Feeling of pressure and sensitivity in the position of the extracted tooth
  3. Analysis of receding gums
  4. difficulty in swallowing and chewing all kinds of food
  5. recurrence of infection in the same place

Care after tooth extraction

After pulling teeth, either surgically or simply, you must go through a period of recovery and treatment. The better you take care of your teeth during recovery, the faster they will heal. By observing the following points, you can avoid the complications of tooth extraction to a large extent:

  • Eating soup and soft foods: any kind of hard food such as sandwiches, gum, toffee and pieces of meat can aggravate gingivitis. Therefore, it is better to eat soft foods such as soup, soup and soft pilaf.
  • Consumption of painkillers: You should take painkillers at certain intervals to reduce pain and swelling. It is better to coordinate the type of housing with your dentist.
  • Putting ice on the pain area: It is better to use cold compresses and cool drinks to reduce pain. If you don't have a compress available, put some ice in plastic and place it on the desired area.
  • Regular mouth washing: It is better to use a combination of lukewarm water and salt or special detergents in a few days after tooth extraction. This reduces both infection and inflammation and prevents the accumulation of bacteria.
  • Using sterile gauze: If you see bleeding at the tooth extraction site, be sure to use sterile gauze. Placing a paper towel or a dirty cloth causes an infection at that point.

Extracting permanent teeth in adults has its own challenges. Visiting an experienced dentist reduces its possible complications. With years of experience in this field, Dr. Khedevi has well identified the reasons for tooth extraction and performs it in the least complicated way possible. You can go to one of Dr. Khedevi's clinics in Nawab, Mirdamad or the second floor of Tehran Pars, Tehran, to have your teeth extracted. How much do you think the writing score is?
