The outbreak of the Zika virus(Zika virus) is an almost rare phenomenon that can be seen in some countries of the world.. The cause of its spread is a type of mosquito called Aedes and it spreads in different ways.... Although this virus shows mild symptoms, it still causes the birth of a defective baby..

Therefore, in this article, GCORP LLC We are going to talk in detail about Zika virus symptoms, treatment and prevention....stay tuned.

What is the Zika virus?..

This virus was first identified in Uganda in 1947.. The virus is transmitted by Aedes, the same mosquito that carries dengue, yellow fever and chikungunya viruses.. It spread across the South Pacific.

Zika virus symptoms

4 out of 5 people infected with Zika virus have no symptoms.. Symptoms usually start 2-14 days after being bitten by an infected mosquito.. Symptoms last about a week.. Most people recover completely.. Symptoms of Zika virus include:

  • Slight fever
  • Hurry
  • Joint pain, especially in the hands or feet
  • Eye redness
  • Eye pain
  • Headache
  • fatigue or feeling unwell in general
  • Abdominal pain

If you have these symptoms and think you or a family member may have been infected with the virus, be sure to see your doctor...especially if you have recently traveled to an area where the virus is prevalent...Also, if you are pregnant and have traveled to these areas, even without symptoms, ask your doctor if you should be tested.

Zika virus is the cause

Zika virus is often transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito.. The mosquitoes that carry the virus include two species of Aedes mosquitoes that are found around the world. These mosquitoes often attack during the day, but they also bite at night. They usually lay their eggs near standing water and can also stay indoors.>

When a mosquito bites a person who is already infected with the Zika virus, the mosquito infects the virus....then when the infected mosquito bites another person, the virus enters the bloodstream of that person and infection occurs....There are other ways that are less common, but can still spread Zika....Here are some of the main ways it spreads:

  1. mother to child

The Zika virus can be transmitted from a mother to her child during pregnancy and after the birth of a baby.... This virus has been found in breast milk and there have been reports of infection in babies.... But if the baby is fed with infected breast milk, no cases of serious health problems have been reported for the baby.... But this virus has a great impact on the fetus.

  1. Blood injection

According to research, the Zika virus can also infect a person through blood transfusions... although it is less likely than other types.

  1. through sex

Zika virus can be transmitted through unprotected vaginal, anal, and oral sex. The virus remains active in semen longer than in other body fluids such as blood and urine.

Therefore, having unprotected sex can increase the risk of contracting the Zika virus for up to three months after travel. For this reason, pregnant women whose partners have recently lived or traveled to areas where the Zika virus is prevalent should use condoms during sexual activity or refrain from sexual activity until the baby is born. Other couples can also use condoms, 3 months after travel or avoid sexual activity.

  1. Laboratory conditions

Some reports also report Zika virus infections in laboratory conditions.. Of course, this has not been confirmed yet, but it is recommended to avoid contact with human blood or other body fluids to avoid exposure to the disease.

  1. travel or live in certain areas

Being in tropical and subtropical areas increases the risk of contracting the Zika virus. High-risk areas include several Pacific islands, a number of Central, South and North American countries, and islands close to West Africa. Zika only occurs when traveling to the mentioned areas.

Complications of the Zika virus

Women who are infected with this virus during pregnancy face the risk of miscarriage, premature birth and stillbirth. This infection during pregnancy increases the risk of serious birth defects in babies (congenital Zika syndrome)... This syndrome causes the following:

  • Abnormal and small brain and head size (microcephaly)
  • Cranial depression
  • Brain damage and reduction of brain tissue
  • Eye damage
  • Joint problems, including limited range of motion
  • Decreased body movement due to excessive muscle pressure after birth

In adults, Zika virus infection may cause complications in the brain or nervous system, such as Guillen-Barre syndrome. Complications may occur even in people who never show symptoms of infection.

Ways to prevent Zika virus

There is currently no treatment known as a Zika virus vaccine, but there are steps you can take to reduce your risks.. If you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant, the following tips may help reduce your risk of Zika virus infection:

  • If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, avoid traveling to areas where the Zika virus is prevalent... So if you want to get pregnant, be sure to consult your doctor... Your doctor may advise you not to get pregnant for at least 3 months after your trip.
  • If your partner lives in or has traveled to an area where Zika is endemic, be sure to use a condom during sex during pregnancy.

If you live in areas where this virus is prevalent, you can do the following:

  • Be sure to pay attention to the air conditioning.... Zika virus-carrying mosquitoes are most active from dawn to dusk, but they can also bite at night.... so be careful not to get inside, and if you sleep outside, be sure to use a mosquito net.... Also, let fresh air flow.
  • Wear protective clothing....when going to mosquito-infested areas, wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, socks, and shoes.
  • Use insect repellants....you can spray some spray on your clothes, shoes, camping equipment and bed nets....these substances are safe and their use is recommended even for pregnant and lactating women.
  • Limit the habitat of mosquitoes.... These mosquitoes usually live in and around houses and reproduce in stagnant water.... They also enter containers such as animal dishes, flower pots, and car tires.... Empty sources that have stagnant water at least once a week to help reduce the mosquito population.

Ways to detect Zika virus

There are two ways to test for Zika.. In one of them, pieces of the genetic code of the virus must be found in people with an active infection.. Of course, there are more accurate tests that show the difference between this virus and dengue fever, yellow fever and chikungunya virus... But most people don't show symptoms, and that's why this test is only recommended for people with symptoms.

In another test, antibodies made by the body's immune system to fight the virus are examined. This test can detect antibodies up to 3 months after infection.

Conclusion

As you have read, this virus is not very common and is only seen more in some areas of the world... but even those who do not know about having Zika can transmit this disease... so it is better to follow the health recommendations after traveling to the mentioned areas or tropical areas with stagnant water... If you are looking for more information and advice, you can contact the doctors of GCORP and as an online appointment.
