**Ceramic laminate** is a kind of thin and transparent covering made of ceramic or porcelain, which is used to beautify the front teeth and correct appearance problems such as discoloration, fracture, cracking and crookedness. Ceramic laminates are installed by shaving a small amount of tooth enamel (usually 0.3 to 1 mm), molding and manufacturing in the laboratory, then with a special adhesive. The main types of **ceramic dental laminate** include feldspathic laminate, zirconia and luminaries, each of which has different features and applications. This laminate provides a very natural appearance, high stain resistance, long life (7 to 15 years or more) and increased smile beauty, but the higher cost, the need for tooth enamel sharpening, and the possibility of tooth sensitivity and laminate damage are among its disadvantages. It is important to take careful care after installation, including maintaining oral hygiene, avoiding hard and colored materials, and visiting the dentist regularly. This method is suitable for people with sufficient enamel and healthy gums, but it is not recommended in cases of gum disease, severe grinding or insufficient enamel. What is ceramic laminate? This laminate is a ceramic or porcelain tooth coating that is very thin and transparent. This type of laminate is usually used to repair front teeth and is installed on the teeth with a special adhesive. These laminates must first be molded, made in the laboratory, and then installed on the tooth with a special adhesive by shaving a small amount of tooth enamel. **Types of ceramic laminate** Ceramic laminates have different models, among the most important and widely used ones in dentistry, the following can be mentioned. ### **feldspathic glass ceramic laminate or glass-based ceramic** This laminate is made of traditional porcelain or glass ceramic materials and is very similar to tooth enamel. Feldspathic laminate has less resistance than other laminates, it is more possible to break it, and a skilled dentist must install it. Its advantages include being thin and having a natural color, and they are also used for partial and very weak repairs. ### **Zirconia ceramic laminate** This zirconia laminate has more resistance than other laminates; But one of its disadvantages is its low healing. Zirconia is thicker than other laminates and is made of zirconium dioxide, which is a crystalline ceramic. This laminate model is completely compatible with the human body and has the least complications and sensitivity, and it is also used to repair back teeth under pressure or people who have a habit of squeezing their teeth together or grinding their teeth. ### **Ceramic laminate Lumineers** This laminate is a thin ceramic with high resistance, which does not require shaving the tooth enamel for its installation, and in case of any problem or falling and breaking, it can be repaired or removed completely. But due to its very thinness, it is very sensitive and suitable for people who want to have more beauty in their teeth. ### Aluminum ceramic laminate This laminate is a type of dental laminate that is made of aluminum oxide and is very suitable for use in dentistry due to its high strength and extraordinary resistance to wear. These laminates are highly durable and the possibility of breakage is very low in them, but their brightness and transparency are less than glass-based laminates. **The use and benefits of ceramic laminate** - Improving the appearance of the smile by creating neat and white teeth. - Fixing appearance problems such as color change, minor fractures, cracks and crookedness. - High resistance to staining and long-term durability. - More preservation of healthy tooth tissue due to low grinding. - Increasing a person's self-confidence. - Life expectancy is usually 10 to 20 years with proper care. - Less need for complex care and maintaining color stability. **Steps of doing dental ceramic laminate** 1. Examining the teeth and treating any damage or decay. 2. Determining the amount of tooth shaving compared to the type of laminate. 3. Shaving tooth enamel to the size of 0.3 to 1 mm for laminate installation. 4. Molding of teeth and making laminate in the laboratory. 5. Cleaning the teeth and preparing the laminate for installation. 6. Attaching the laminate ceramic coating on the tooth using a special glue. 7. Matching and fixing the laminate ceramic cover with the teeth and providing care recommendations. **Advantages and disadvantages of ceramic laminate** **Ceramic laminate side effects** - Temporary tooth sensitivity to cold and heat. - Inflammation and slight swelling of the gums at the beginning. - The risk of damage to the inner tissue of the tooth (pulp) if the cutting is too high or incorrect. - The possibility of breaking or filling the laminate with high pressure. - Color inconsistency or color change around the laminate. - The possibility of decay under the laminate in case of improper care. - Irreversible treatment due to tooth enamel scraping. Maintaining oral hygiene, choosing a professional dentist, and post-installation care are the most important ways to reduce these complications. **Care after dental ceramic laminate** - Clean the teeth at least twice a day with a soft toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste (for laminate if possible). - Use dental floss at least once a day to remove food and plaque between the teeth. - It is recommended to use alcohol-free mouthwash in order to disinfect and maintain gum health. - For the first few weeks after installing the laminate, avoid eating colored foods and drinks (such as tea, coffee, and soft drinks). - Avoid chewing very hard food so as not to break the laminate or fill the lips. - If you have tooth sensitivity to cold and heat, anti-allergic toothpaste can help, and usually this sensitivity is temporary. - Visit the dentist at least once every 6 months for an examination and checkup to check the health of the laminate and teeth. - Avoid using tobacco and cigarettes; Because it changes the color of the laminate and reduces its durability. - Care and hygiene are important like natural teeth; Because tooth decay is possible under the laminate.
