**Please read the disclaimer at the bottom of this page.** There are many reasons for nosebleeds, most of which are not serious. The most common causes are: ### Headache and allergy Colds and allergies cause swelling and irritation inside the nose and may lead to spontaneous bleeding... A baby may get a nosebleed from touching the nose, putting something in it or squeezing it hard.. Also hitting the nose with a ball or falling and hitting the nose can cause a nosebleed. (which fortunately is an uncommon occurrence) nosebleeds may occur.. ### Anatomical problems Any abnormal structure inside the nose can lead to nosebleeds.... ### Abnormal growth Any abnormal tissue growing in the nose may cause nosebleeds.... Although most of these lumps (usually polyps) are benign (not cancerous), they still require immediate treatment.... ### Abnormal blood clotting Anything that causes blood to clot may cause nosebleeds....Medications, even common ones like aspirin, can alter the hematopoietic mechanism enough to cause bleeding....blood diseases such as hemophilia can also cause nosebleeds.... ### Chronic Diseases Any child with a long-term illness or a condition that requires supplemental oxygen or other medications that can dry out the nasal mucosa may experience nosebleeds..
