Treatment of the hole in the heart of children VSD, as the most common congenital heart disease in babies and children, is one of the important topics of children's heart, and knowing it will reduce stress for families with this common heart disease. Because in most cases, VSD has a complete cure and the treated baby will not have any problems throughout his life. To learn about the definition and diagnosis of VSD, refer to the following article.
VSD children heart hole
Treatment depends on your child's symptoms, age, and general health. It also depends on the severity of the disease. A small VSD may close on its own as the child grows. Some small ventricular wall defects (VSD) do not close on their own, but still do not require treatment. Large VSDs often need to be closed surgically or through angiography. Once a child is diagnosed with a VSD, their cardiologist will regularly monitor the defect to see if it closes on its own.
Some children with VSD may need medication to help the heart work better. It is interesting to know that none of the drug treatments in VSD causes the heart hole to close. Rather, it prevents the possible changes of this hole. Children without symptoms may not need medication. Good nutrition is part of the treatment In the hole in the heart of large children, children may get tired when feeding. They may not be able to eat enough to gain a healthy weight. They may need help feeding: ### Auxiliary nutrition with high calories Sometimes your child needs to receive formula or breast milk with high calories. Your baby may need nutritional supplements added to formula or breast milk. This increases the number of calories per ounce. ### Feeding with stomach tube Your baby may need to be fed through a small, flexible tube. This tube enters the esophagus and stomach through the nose. Your baby may need bottle feeding or tube feeding. Babies who can drink part of their bottles may eat the rest through tube feeding. Babies who tire of bottle feeding may receive all or part of their nutrition through a feeding tube.
The purpose of VSD closure surgery is to prevent damage to the lungs. Surgery also helps babies who have trouble feeding gain a normal amount of weight. Your child's cardiologist will decide when your child should have surgery. This is based on echocardiogram and cardiac catheterization results. During surgery, your child's doctor closes the ventricular wall defect (VSD) with stitches or a special patch. Ask your child's cardiologist for more information. Treatment of pediatric heart perforation with angiography or catheterization The treatment of your child's heart hole may be done by catheterization or cardiac angiography. In this test, a tool is used to close the SDS along with a catheter (special flexible and thin plastic tubes). The doctor guides the catheter through the blood vessels to the heart. Once the catheter is in the heart, the doctor closes the hole with a special device to close the wall. Only some types of VSD may be closed with this method. This procedure should be performed in centers with experienced personnel in the field of VSD closure with angiography.
Complications of untreated VSD include: - Lung problems - Heart failure - Irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia) - Heart valve problems - Poor growth and development
Living with VSD or Ventricular Wall Defect (VSD) ### small cardiac holes (VSD). Children with small VSDs may have no symptoms. These children may not need medication. They are often only followed up by their cardiologists. If there is a defect that heals on its own, it often happens by the age of 2 years. But some holes close up to 4 years old. These children usually grow and develop normally. They also have no restrictions on their activities and lead healthy and normal lives. ### Medium to large cardiac perforations (VSD). If the VSD is medium to large, your child's cardiologist will monitor him at less frequent intervals. The doctor will decide when and how your child's VSD will be closed. Before surgery, your child may need special medication and nutrition. Your child's heart doctor and nurses will give you information and support so you can care for your child at home. Children who need surgery are hospitalized for surgery. After pediatric heart surgery ### Normal course after VSD operation Children who have difficulty eating before surgery often recover immediately after surgery. They start eating better and gaining weight faster. After surgery, older children are often able to be as active as they were before the surgery. Within a few weeks, your baby should be fully recovered. He should be able to perform normal activities. Your child's cardiologist and nurses will guide you on how to care for your child after the operation. Most children who undergo surgery for VSD lead healthy and normal lives. Their activity level, appetite and growth often return to normal. ### Postoperative care of VSD Your child's cardiologist may give him antibiotics to prevent infection after he leaves the hospital. Ask your child's cardiologist and nurses about the course of post-operative care for your child. When this condition is caught early, the outcome is often excellent. If complications occur after surgery or the VSD does not resolve, the outlook may not be good. And the risk of VSD complications continues. Children with these problems should receive follow-up care at a center that specializes in congenital heart disease. Use the following articles to read more.
