Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common bacterial infections in children, which, if not treated in time, can lead to serious complications such as kidney damage. It is difficult to diagnose this disease in children, especially infants, because its symptoms are often non-specific... Symptoms vary depending on the age of the child: ### **🔹 Babies and infants (under 2 years old)** Unexplained fever - Restlessness and crying a lot - Loss of appetite - Vomiting or diarrhea - Smelly urine - Lack of proper weighing ### **🔹 older children (over 2 years old)** - Burning and pain when urinating - Frequency of urination - Pain in the lower abdomen or side - Sudden enuresis - Fever and chills ** Causes of urinary tract infection in children ** - **Bacterial infection (mainly E.Coli)** - **holding urine for a long time** - **chronic constipation** - **abnormalities of the urinary system** **Diagnosis of urinary tract infection** - **urine test (urine culture)** - **kidney and bladder ultrasound** (in frequent cases) - **Cystorethrography (VCUG)** if urinary reflux is suspected **Treatment of urinary tract infection in children** ✅ **antibiotic** (by doctor's prescription) Drink plenty of water and fluids Treatment of constipation if present Surgery (in rare cases such as urinary obstruction) **prevention of urinary infection** - Timely changing of diapers in babies - Teaching health principles to children - Prevent constipation - Adequate fluid intake **When should we see a doctor?** High fever for no reason Severe pain in the side or abdomen 🔴 Decreased level of consciousness ### **Conclusion** Timely diagnosis of UTI in children prevents dangerous complications..
