Ultrasound

Fetal echocardiography or Fetal echocardiography (in English: Fetal echocardiography) is a type of ultrasound imaging that is used to check the fetal heart condition during pregnancy. to be Congenital defects fetal heart are among the most common birth defects. Diagnosing this disease in the fetal stage is very important because it can help you have an opportunity to plan and manage the child after birth.

Conditions:

Fetal echocardiography is usually performed by a pediatric cardiologist, but may also be performed by a sonologist. To date, no side effects have been proven in the mother or the fetus after performing this test. Fetal echocardiogram performance requires experience and a systematic approach. Guidelines for training to perform this test have been developed and only qualified individuals should perform this highly specialized examination. Of course, not all pregnancies require an echocardiogram. The special conditions of the mother and the fetus indicate the need for this test. These conditions are as follows:

Mother conditions

  • Diabetes
  • Consumption of anticonvulsant drugs
  • The experience of having a child with CHD
  • Infection with infections such as parvovirus, Measles and Coxsackie
  • Autoimmune diseases

Fetal conditions

  • Increasing the thickness of the fluid behind the neck of the fetus
  • Abnormal duct of Venus
  • screening for abnormal fetal heart
  • Major abnormality outside the heart
  • Hydrops
  • fetal dysrhythmias

Steps to do:

The first step is to determine the position of the fetus inside the uterus. Because the heart moves inside the chest, this organ is usually the easiest and most recognizable structure to examine.

For orientation, the left atrium is defined by the presence of the internal septum and the pulmonary veins. By identifying the systemic vessels and the position of the atria in relation to the liver and spleen, the sinus of the heart can be recognized. Next, the atrioventricular valves are identified. Then the cardiac output segments will be evaluated. Cardiac measurements can be taken and compared with normal values defined for all gestational ages.

Doppler techniques can be used to visualize blood flow in the heart, great vessels and umbilical vessels. Evaluation of fetal arrhythmias is best done using a combination of M-mode and Doppler recording. When these arrhythmias are present, the search for heart disease becomes more thorough. Using this method, a lot of diagnostic information will be available.

Awareness of complex congenital heart disease before delivery enables therapeutic interventions to begin soon after birth and can be life-saving for such patients. It also makes pregnancy care better. The vital role of echocardiography is evident in prenatal diagnosis and Now the accuracy and safety of this test has been completely proven.

Today, a dedicated fetal echocardiogram can detect almost 100% of serious congenital heart disease. However, most pregnant women do not have a fetal echocardiogram, but undergo a general gynecological ultrasound. Unfortunately, these types of ultrasounds are not as accurate as echography and may only detect about a third of fetal heart diseases.
