The otolaryngologist, in his field of expertise, must be able to perform a wide range of procedures to solve a large number of medical problems.

These operations vary in scale and complexity, from complex reconstruction of small vessels to surgery involving the entire neck.

Ear, nose and throat surgeons use different surgical methods, including:

  • Inserting a grommet for sticky ear....which involves a very small incision in the eardrum and is usually done on children....grommets help to ventilate the middle ear and remove the buildup....grommets are used to treat middle ear infections in the eardrum....it actually allows air to enter the middle ear which also reduces air pressure..tube...slow.
  • Tonsillectomy (removal of tonsils) or adenoidectomy (removal of adenoids), mostly in children
  • Septoplasty - correcting the nasal septum to prevent obstruction and create smooth breathing
  • Microlaryngoscopy – A short metal tube (laryngoscope) is inserted into the larynx (voice box).. This is used for examination and can also be used for biopsy or surgery..
  • Endoscopic sinus surgery – A small telescope is inserted into the nasal airways to diagnose and treat severe sinus disease.. Then fine technical instruments are used to restore proper function.
  • Tympanomastoid surgery to reconstruct and remove epithelial bodies (cholesteatoma) in the middle ear
  • Open surgery to remove neck masses and salivary gland tumors
  • Tracheostomy

ENT surgery is at the forefront of the latest medical technology, and minimally invasive procedures are common...which have many advantages, including less scarring (less scarring) and shorter recovery times

The list of practices below provides an overview of their wide range of work.

1) Blepharoplasty

This procedure is a procedure to repair drooping eyelids by removing excess skin, muscle, or fat that may be blocking vision.. This procedure is often done for cosmetic reasons and rarely requires hospitalization.

2) Endoscopic sinus surgery

An otolaryngologist often performs this procedure to treat infectious and inflammatory sinus conditions such as chronic sinusitis or polyp growth. ENT doctors insert an instrument called an endoscope into the nose, which allows them to see the sinuses.

They can insert surgical tools such as lasers and use them to remove material that is blocking the sinuses. This procedure may be done under local anesthesia or general anesthesia.

3) Cutting and biopsy (tissue removal)

The surgeon performs a biopsy to identify suspicious lesions and tumors, which can be done anywhere in the body, and identifying the nature of the lesions is essential to determine an effective course of treatment.

They can often remove small lesions and superficial skin cancer lumps under local anesthesia in an outpatient setting.

4) Facial plastic surgery

This type of surgery can be both reconstructive and cosmetic.... An otolaryngologist can repair congenital abnormalities such as cleft palate or conditions that result from accidents, previous surgeries, or skin cancer.

They can also correct the appearance of facial structures, including wrinkles.

5) Myringotomy and placement of intubation for pressure equalization (PE)

For people who have frequent middle ear infections or hearing loss due to fluid in the ear, a surgeon can insert tubes through the eardrum to allow air to pass through the middle ear.

Polyethylene pipes can be short-term or long-term.

Myringotomy is a procedure in which an otolaryngologist makes a small incision in the eardrum to relieve pressure from excess fluid production.

They can also help drain pus from the middle ear.

6) Cutting and dissection of the neck

One of the major types of surgery is the removal of cancerous lymph nodes in the neck, which is performed under general anesthesia. The extent of the surgery depends on the extent of the cancer.

Total neck dissection (also called radical surgery) requires the removal of all tissue from the jawbone to the collarbone on the side of the neck, along with muscles, nerves, salivary glands, and major blood vessels from this area.

7) septoplasty

This surgery is to correct the deviation of the nasal septum (middle nasal blade) or to create more access to the nose to remove the polyp. This operation can be done with local anesthesia or general anesthesia, and the otolaryngologist must separate the lining of the nasal airway from the underlying cartilage.

Then, if necessary, the bent cartilage is straightened.

8) Surgery for snoring or sleep apnea / obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)

Otolaryngologists have different surgical options for snoring and OSA.. They can cut excess soft palate tissue to open up the airways, such as cutting using radiofrequency heat waves to reduce tissue volume.

They can also stiffen the soft palate with injections or by placing stiffening rods to reduce the chance of vibration and collapse.

9) Thyroid surgery

The thyroid is located just below the larynx.... In some cases, otolaryngologists can remove all or part of the thyroid gland in case of thyroid cancer, suspicious masses, obstruction of the pharynx or esophagus, or hyperthyroidism.

10) Tonsil removal or adenoidectomy

A tonsillectomy is the removal of the tonsils, and an adenoidectomy is the surgical removal of the adenoids... which are usually necessary to treat recurrent infections or respiratory problems.

This procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia, but usually the patient does not need to stay in the hospital.

11) Tracheostomy

This is a surgical procedure to make a hole through the neck into the pharynx. The otolaryngologist can insert a tube into this hole to create an airway or drain secretions from the lungs.

A tracheostomy may be needed to treat several conditions, including neck cancer and severe laryngeal disease.

12) Tympanoplasty

This type of surgery can correct any defect in the eardrum with transplanted tissue or remove middle ear bone disease... Tympanoplasty helps to close pores, improve hearing and eradicate middle ear diseases.

This method can be done in outpatient conditions.
