Symptoms caused by this condition can be painful and audible for the person. This disease usually occurs in young and active people who perform repetitive movements above their heads. For example, athletes who are engaged in activities such as weight lifting, baseball, and swimming are more likely to develop this complication. Other possible causes can include fractures, tumors, or muscle weakness and atrophy. In general, the possibility of developing this complication increases when you are engaged in activities such as excessive use of the arm, improper body posture during sports activities, or incorrect movement of the joint. However, a sudden impact can also play a role in the development of vocal scapular syndrome. The cause of vocal scapula syndrome This complication may occur due to bone or soft tissue problems: - Bones may be malformed from birth or become malformed due to a fracture. It is possible that when you move your scapula, it hits the malformed bone, causing wear and tear and finally making noise. - Soft tissues include muscles and bursa. The muscles between the shoulder blades and chest may become tight, tight, inflamed, or weak. In this position, the scapula is placed close to the chest and hits the ribs painfully while moving the arm. - The bursa is a bag filled with fluid that acts like a cushion and reduces friction between the shoulder and the chest or between the shoulder and the muscles. Sometimes the scapula may rub and irritate the bursa. Symptoms such as rubbing or sounding from the scapula following the scapular scapula syndrome can be caused by inflammation of the bursa, lack of reduction of friction by the bursa, etc. Read more: Causes of shoulder pain The possible problems that cause this complication are as follows: - Doing repetitive activities like raising your hand to throw a ball - Doing exercise techniques incorrectly, such as overtraining or starting exercise without warming up - Incorrect body position - Weakness in the shoulder area - muscle stiffness, chest pain, shoulder, neck or shoulder area - problems in the neck and shoulder joints - Nerve damage in the shoulder area - Inflammation of muscles or bursa - Untreated fractures in the ribs or scapula Usually, the process of treatment and recovery of this disease lasts between 3 and 6 months; But some people feel better after a few weeks. When visiting a doctor, he will first perform a physical examination for you and ask about your medical records. Next, to confirm your diagnosis and rule out other possible causes, you will be asked to take a photo of the painful area so that the evaluation can be done accurately. Can it be prevented? The tips you can follow to prevent are as follows: - You must have a good and straight posture and avoid bending your body. - You must maintain strength in the area of shoulder and shoulder muscles. - Be careful to perform the technique of exercises that require frequent lifting of the arm correctly. What are the treatment solutions? Fortunately, scapula syndrome can be improved with non-surgical solutions including activity modification, rest, anti-inflammatory pain medications, physical therapy, and steroid injections. Only on rare occasions, if it does not improve with such treatments or if symptoms worsen, you may need surgery for treatment. If the patient needs surgery, after a period of time, you should participate in rehabilitation sessions to eventually lead to the return of strength, flexibility and range of motion.
