What is labor induction and how is it done?

Inlate pregnancy, if your doctor or midwife is concerned about your or the baby's health, they may suggest speeding up the process.. This method of labor induction is called induced labor or induction..

Induction can be a good option for some women, but it has risks and does not always work. Be.... Most experts are of the opinion that it is best to let natural labor begin and progress, unless there is a specific medical reason.

Why is induction labor performed?

Induction is very common.... This work is often done for medical reasons, but it can also be optional.... To get information in this field, it is better to consult a gynecologist.

Why do some women need labor induction?

1) If 1 to 2 weeks have passed since the delivery date

Studies show that induction of labor at 39 weeks does not increase the risk of cesarean section or birth complications for the child. The risk of complications after 41 weeks is higher for the mother and the child.

Slightly "delayed" delivery is not a compelling reason for induction....Furthermore, the process cannot be done sooner....Babies born before 39 weeks have a greater chance of health problems, longer hospital stays, and longer NICU stays.

2) The bag of water breaks, but the birthing process does not start

After the water sac ruptures, you and your baby are at risk of infection... but induction may not be necessary right away... so it is better to consult your doctor or midwife in this regard.

Sometimes it may not be a problem to give birth on its own.... After the water bag ruptures, the doctor limits the number of vaginal examinations due to the possibility of infection.

3) A problem endangers your or your child's health

Infection (chorioamnionitis), severe reduction of amniotic fluid (oligohydramnios) and placental abruption are related examples.. Your doctor or midwife wants to induce labor..

4) If your baby is not growing as it should

It is possible that the improper development of your child may also have some degree of cardiac abnormality.. Under these conditions, the doctor or midwife may decide to induce labor.

Some doctors recommend elective induction for non-medical reasons... maybe you live far from the hospital and the doctor is worried about getting there in time... or maybe the doctor wants you to coordinate your schedule with them.

However, experts say you should reconsider inducing labor.... Because induction carries risks, experts say women should not be induced unless medically necessary.

For what reasons induction should not be done?

The doctor should not induce in the following cases:

  • You have already had a caesarean section that involves a classic incision or major surgery.
  • The placenta covers the cervix (parts)
  • Your child is not in the right position (side or foot)

How is labor induced?

The doctor or midwife can induce the birth process in different ways.. These methods are:

1) Fetal membrane band

In this procedure, the doctor or midwife uses a gloved finger to separate the amniotic sac from the uterine wall at the cervix... This causes the release of hormones that can stimulate contractions.. You can do this in the doctor's or midwife's office.

This process can be uncomfortable....After this, you should probably go home and wait for contractions....you may have cramping and spotting....Studies vary on how to separate the fetal membranes.... Considering this issue and the discomfort caused by it, it is better to talk to a doctor or midwife about the advantages and disadvantages of this method before performing this procedure.>

2) Hormones

In the hospital, your doctor will give you a hormone called prostaglandin to open the cervix and stimulate contractions. If you have had a cesarean in the past, the doctor does not use this method due to the increased risk of uterine rupture.

3) mechanical expansion

Another method that doctors or midwives use to induce labor is using a balloon catheter. In the hospital, the doctor inserts a thin tube through the vagina into the cervix. Then, using water, inflates the balloon at the end of the tube. The expansion of the balloon causes the cervix to enlarge.

4) Medicines

Pitocin can start contractions... This drug is given intravenously in the hospital. The doctor or midwife starts with a low dose and gradually increases it until the contractions are strong and continuous enough for the baby to be born.

Some women go into labor within a few hours of induction....others take 1 or 2 days to go into labor....If none of these methods are effective in starting labor and continuing down this path is not an option, a C-section will likely be needed, especially if the water sac has ruptured.

What are the risks of labor induction?

Induction of labor is not effective for everyone, and each expectant mother's body reacts differently to the induction method... In general, induction of labor is a safe process, but it carries risks:

1) Stay longer in the hospital

If you are induced, you may spend more time in the hospital..

2) Increased need for pain medication

Induction of labor may cause stronger and more intense contractions than normal. You may need an epidural or other medications to control the pain.

3) Increased risk of infection

If you don't give birth within a day or two after induction, a ruptured amniotic sac can lead to infection.

4) Health problems for the child

Women who undergo induction for medical reasons before the 39th week may give birth to a baby with breathing problems.... These babies are at high risk for long-term growth problems.

5) Complications during childbirth

Induction (especially with drugs) may be dangerous in women who have previously had a cesarean section or other uterine surgery. They are also more likely to have a ruptured uterus.

Additionally, strong contractions can cause the placenta to separate from the uterine wall, which is called placental abruption or placental abruption..

If your doctor or midwife recommends induction, ask about it....you need to be absolutely sure that it is the best decision for you and your baby's health.

Can I give birth myself?

There are many stories about home remedies that supposedly induce labor, but there is no scientific evidence to back them up... These methods include:

  • Sexual relationship
  • Gentle stimulation of the nipples
  • Herbal medicines such as blue or black cohosh
Note that some herbs can be dangerous if not used correctly.
  • Drinking small amounts of castor oil
According to recent controlled studies, it is okay to do so in late pregnancy, but castor oil can also cause unpleasant side effects such as diarrhea.
  • walking

Note that you should not try any of these methods to induce labor without consulting your doctor or midwife. Some of them can have side effects or risks.

Dear ones, for information about labor induction, it is better to visit a doctorgynecologist and midwife... It is possible to book a doctor's appointment online through the GCORP LLC website.... The contact number and address of the office can also be accessed through GCORP LLC.
