Intestinal infection is one of the most common and common problems in children, which may cause serious and irreversible consequences for children's health and development. This type of infection usually occurs in babies and children due to various viruses and bacteria and leads to diarrhea, vomiting, anorexia and fever in them. The weak immune system of children, especially under the age of 5, is one of the main causes of these types of infections. This disease can lead to weight loss, impaired growth, and in more severe cases, nutritional deficiency, of which hair oil is one of the serious complications that may lead to the death of children. What are the causes of intestinal infection in children? Intestinal infection in children can be caused by various factors such as diarrhea. In the following, we will mention some common causes of intestinal infection in children: ### types of viruses Most intestinal infections in children are caused by viruses. Viruses such as rotavirus, norovirus and adenovirus usually cause diarrhea and vomiting in children. ### types of bacteria Some bacteria can also cause intestinal infections in children. Salmonella, Shigella, Escherichia coli and Campylobacter jejunitalis are among the common bacteria that cause intestinal infections in children. ### Parasites Parasites such as Guardia, Cryptosporidium, Amoeba and Lamblia can lead to intestinal infections in children. These parasites usually enter the body through drinking water or contaminated food. ### Food contamination Consumption of contaminated food, especially unpreserved or incomplete food, can lead to intestinal infections in children. Some bacteria and viruses may be found in contaminated food and lead to infection after consumption by children. ### Environmentally related infections Contaminated materials, contaminated water and unsanitary conditions in children's living environment can cause intestinal infection. For example, using contaminated water, not washing hands properly and inappropriate environments such as kindergartens. ### contact with people suffering from this disease Contact with people who have an intestinal infection can lead to the transmission of the infection to children. This includes contact with hands, objects, or surfaces contaminated with germs. What symptoms does intestinal infection cause in children? Intestinal infections in children appear with different symptoms. In the following, we will examine the symptoms of this disease in children: ### Acute diarrhea One of the common symptoms of intestinal infection in children is diarrhea. In this case, the child's stool becomes abnormal, thin and watery, and the number of emptying times also increases. Diarrhea may be accompanied by a decrease in seizures due to fever, dry mouth, loss of appetite and exacerbation of symptoms in children less than one year old. ### Vomiting in children Intestinal infection may be accompanied by vomiting. The child may have repeated and sudden vomiting symptoms. Each child can have a different number of vomiting, the severity of which is different. ### Fever in children In some cases, an intestinal infection can be accompanied by an increase in the child's body temperature. Fever without a cause in children can be a sign of the body's reaction to the infection, and its intensity may exceed the limit in severe cases and change to mild fever in mild cases. In addition to the main symptoms, intestinal infection in children can also be accompanied by other symptoms, including: - General fatigue and weakness: fatigue and weakness are among the other symptoms of intestinal infection in children. - Sudden seizures: In some cases, intestinal infection may be accompanied by sudden seizures in children. Methods of diagnosis and prevention of intestinal infection in children Personal hygiene is vital to prevent intestinal infections in children. Among the important points in this field, the following can be mentioned: 1. Personal hygiene: Parents should teach their children to wash their hands with soap and water before and after each meal and after vomiting or handling feces and avoid contact with contaminated objects. 2. Environmental hygiene: It is very important to keep children's living environment clean. They must observe hygiene measures regarding the environments that come in contact with food and water and store and cook food at the right temperature. 3. Vaccination: Regular vaccination of children against some infections such as rotavirus can help them greatly. Therefore, parents should ensure that their children's vaccination schedule is up to date. 4. Correct management of food and water: consumption of clean drinking water and healthy and well-cooked food is of great importance. Avoid contaminated and unhealthy food and water and be careful about your children's food and water sources. 5. Health care during travel: Pay attention to children's personal and environmental hygiene during travel, avoid unhealthy drinking water and use well-cooked food.
