Customized Aqualisik with the ultra-advanced Aquarius device:
The difference between customized LASIK (customized Wavefront) and standard LASIK
LASIK is performed in two main ways: standard (conventional) and customized (Customized or Wavefront-Optimized). The basic difference between these two methods is based on the treatment and accuracy of personalization, which ultimately affects the quality of a person's final vision.
1. Basis of treatment and data: • Standard LASIK: This method is based on simple data that is obtained from the score of glasses or refraction test. In other words, a standard cut profile is applied to all eyes with the same myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism score.
• Custom LASIK: In this method, before surgery, a Wavefront Analyzer or Topographer is used. This device prepares a very precise and three-dimensional map of all the defects and optical errors of each eye, which is called "fingerprint of the eye". Based on this unique map, the laser completely customizes the cutting program.
2. Corrected errors:
• Standard LASIK: only able to correct low order errors; That is, myopia, farsightedness and simple astigmatisms. This method does not pay attention to higher order optical errors (HOAs) that affect the quality of vision in low light conditions and in some cases may exacerbate them (such as spherical error). These errors include Coma, Spherical Aberration and Trefoil, which are responsible for effects such as Halos and Glares at night.
3. Final Vision Quality:
• Standard LASIK: usually results in excellent vision (such as 20/20), but the patient may still experience problems such as halos or glare around lights when driving at night because the HOAs are not corrected.
• Customized LASIK: The goal is to maximize the individual's vision potential. By correcting higher order errors, not only does the score improve, but it usually results in a significant improvement in contrast sensitivity (the ability to see in shadows and low light) and a reduction in night vision complications (such as halos and light scattering), ultimately providing a better quality of vision compared to standard LASIK.
In short, customized LASIK using Wavefront mapping takes accuracy and personalization to a higher level than quality. Optimizing vision, especially in challenging lighting conditions.
