Anorgasmia or orgasm disorder is one of the common problems in women that can have many reasons. In this article from the website of Pirouzi Psychology Center, we have investigated this disorder, its symptoms, factors affecting its occurrence, diagnosis methods and treatment solutions. We also specify in what situations it will be necessary to see a doctor. So stay with us until the end of this article.
Orgasm disorder in women Orgasm disorder is one of the common problems that can have many negative effects on sexual performance and women's satisfaction with marital relationships. Research shows that this disorder affects between 11 and 41% of women worldwide and significantly affects the quality of their sexual life. The causes of orgasm disorder in women are very diverse and complex and can depend on factors such as genetics, medical conditions, use of drugs, alcohol and drugs, other sexual disorders, psychological problems, everyday stress, weak communication and issues in marital relationships. One of the common questions in this field is: "What is orgasm?"** When a woman reaches orgasm, processes such as increased heart rate, breathing and blood pressure occur in her body. Levels of the hormone oxytocin, known as the "love hormone," increase during these moments and are thought to peak during orgasm. Also, certain areas of the brain that are associated with dopamine, or the "pleasure hormone", become more active. If a person is having trouble reaching orgasm, what should he do? What are the consequences of orgasm disorder in women? In this article, we will examine these questions. Types of anorgasmia in women Anorgasmia in women is divided into four general types: - ### **primary anorgasmia** The woman has never had an orgasm. - ### **secondary anorgasmia** The woman has experienced orgasm before, but now for some reason she is not able to reach the peak of sexual pleasure. - ### **positional anorgasmia** A woman has the ability to reach orgasm only under certain conditions. - ### **general anorgasmia** A woman is not able to experience orgasm under any circumstances. How does anorgasmia occur? Anorgasmia is more common in women than in men. Due to individual differences, the experience of orgasm is different in every woman, so there is no definite definition for this disorder. However, not reaching orgasm, a long delay in reaching it, or a decrease in the intensity of orgasm are common symptoms of this problem. Excessive anxiety and worry about minor issues related to orgasm can also lead to anorgasmia. Research shows that about 10% of women never experience orgasm. Risk factors and causes of orgasm disorder ### **1. Psychological factors** Anxiety, stress, pregnancy worries, and other mood disorders can affect a woman's ability to reach orgasm. ### **2. Environmental and cultural factors** There is a direct relationship between the quality of emotional relationship, mental health, physical condition and the occurrence of orgasm disorder in women. Socio-cultural beliefs and norms such as a negative view of sexual pleasure, gender roles and educational taboos also affect. ### **3. Physiological and medicinal factors** Some diseases such as MS, nerve damage, surgeries such as radical hysterectomy, and the use of drugs such as SSRIs can have a negative effect on women's sexual performance. Also, women who have vaginal dryness or vulvovaginal atrophy are more likely to experience orgasm problems. Some researches have shown that with age, the possibility of orgasm disorder increases and the natural decline of sexual function may also play a role in this process. Source: American Psychological Association, DSM-5-TR, translated by Dr. Mehdi Ganji, Savalan Publications Diagnosis of female orgasm disorder In many societies, talking about sex, especially about women, is still restricted and taboo. Inadequate education, lack of reliable resources and limited sex education have made many women unaware of the existence of this disorder. Each person's sexual experience is different, so don't compare yourself to others. If a person is dissatisfied in their sexual relations, it is recommended to see a gynecologist or a sex therapist. At Pirouzi Psychology Clinic, specialized consultations are provided to diagnose and treat this problem. Therapeutic interventions for orgasm disorder in women Treatment solutions for orgasm disorder can include the following: 1. **Providing sufficient information** about the sexual mechanism of women to the individual and his sexual partner. 2. **Encouraging cognitive sessions (Exploration):** Helping couples to better understand each other's body, needs and sexual interests. 3. **Teaching the mechanism of orgasm:** Many women do not reach orgasm without direct stimulation of the clitoris during vaginal intercourse. 4. **Reassuring and reducing anxiety (Normalizing & Reassurance):** Creating a safe psychological environment and reducing anxiety for the individual and his partner. 5. **Bridge Maneuver Method:** Directly stimulating the clitoris until close to orgasm (or experiencing it) before penetration, which can facilitate orgasm.
