What is the anatomy of the human body?

The body structure of living organisms is called anatomy.

Anatomy is a branch of biology and medicine... The history of anatomy goes back to 2000 years ago and ancient Greece.

Anatomy can be divided into three main parts: human anatomy, zootomy or animal anatomy, and phytotomy, which is plant anatomy.

The study of the structure of the human body is called human anatomy... Knowing anatomy is the key to gaining health and medical experiences.

The word "anatomy" is derived from the Greek word "ana" meaning "above" and "tum" meaning "cut". In the past, anatomy was studied through cutting or dissection, but nowadays with the help of photography technology, the structure of the body can be seen without dissection.

There are two ways to view anatomy: macroscopic anatomy and microscopic anatomy.

Macroscopic anatomy

In medicine, the study of biological structure visible to the naked eye is called macro, macro, or topographic anatomy.

Gross anatomy examination includes dissection or non-invasive methods... Its purpose is to obtain information about the large structures of organs and body systems.

In an autopsy, a scientist dissects a human or animal corpse and examines its organs.

Endoscopy (insertion of a tube with a camera inside the body) can be used to examine the internal organs of living animals.... Endoscopy is performed through the mouth or anus.... Therefore, the digestive tract is often considered.

There are other non-invasive methods... For example, to examine the blood vessels of an animal or a living person, a specialist can inject a clear dye into its body, which makes the circulatory system visible in imaging technology such as angiography.

Methods such as MRI, CT scan and X-ray also provide us with information about the inside of the body.

Medical and dental students perform autopsies as part of practical work in human gross anatomy.... They may perform an autopsy on the human body.

Gross anatomy students should learn the main body systems.

Human body systems

The human body consists of 11 systems:

  • Skin system including skin, hair, nails, etc.
  • Skeletal system
  • muscular system
  • lymphatic system
  • respiratory system
  • digestive system
  • nervous system
  • The endocrine system which is responsible for the regulation and production of hormones
  • Cardiovascular system
  • bladder system
  • Reproductive system

Although these systems have different names, they all interact with each other...that is, they work together and depend on each other.

Microscopic anatomy

The study of cells and tissues of animals, humans and plants that cannot be seen with the naked eye is called microscopic anatomy or histology (histology).

By looking at the tissue under the microscope, we can understand the structure, connection and interaction of cells with each other.

For example, if a person has cancer, examination of the tissue under the microscope shows the function of the cells and its effect on the human tissue.

At this stage, histological methods such as dissection and staining are used to examine the tissue and cells. Then the tissue or cell is observed under an electron or light microscope.

In dissection, the tissue is divided into very thin pieces for examination. A histological dye is added to a biological structure, such as tissue, to make the dye visible and easier to distinguish, especially if the structures are close together.

Histology is essential for the understanding and advancement of medicine, veterinary medicine, biology and other scientific aspects.

Among the applications of histology, the following can be mentioned:

Education: Histology slides are used in the laboratory so that students can gain a better understanding of the microstructures of biological tissue.

Diagnosis: A tissue sample or biopsy is taken from the patient and sent to the laboratory for examination by a histologist.

Forensic investigations: For example, microscopic examination of biological tissues can explain the cause of a person's sudden death.

Autopsy: Just like forensic investigations, the biological tissue of a dead person or animal can be examined to help investigators better determine the cause of death.

Archaeology: Biological samples from ancient sites provide useful information about historical or ancient events.

Histopathology or tissue pathology

Histotechnicians, also called histology technicians, histologists, biomedical specialists, medical specialists, or medical laboratory technicians, work in a histology laboratory.

Using special skills, these specialists process biological tissue samples taken from patients, suspicious persons (if the laboratory is legal) or cadavers.. With the help of various techniques, they prepare small pieces of tissue called sections.. Then they place the tissue pieces on a slide and add histological dye to it.. The histopathologist or pathologist examines these slides.

The skills of a histologist must be precise and accurate so that the sample he provides to the histopathologist for examination under the microscope is of the highest quality.

A doctor who graduates from medical school and then specializes in pathology during residency is called a pathologist.. To get expertise in any field, a person must go through a residency period.. This course is four years to get expertise in pathology.

A pathologist examines cells and tissues and interprets his observations so that he or others can use the information to choose how to treat a disease, determine the manner of injury or death, etc.

Histopathology is a sub-branch of pathology and refers to the study of patient tissue and cells under a microscope.

Anatomy study and training

Most medical care studies require training in gross anatomy and histology. Paramedics, physical therapists, occupational therapists, orthopedic and prosthetics, and biological researchers all require knowledge of anatomy.
