Family education is the key to control diabetes in children

Diabetes

On the eve of the National Diabetes Week, Dr. Ali Faraji, a specialist in children's diseases and a member of the Board of Directors of the Iranian Children's Doctors Association, emphasized the importance of educating families in identifying and controlling diabetes at an early age. Referring to the increasing trend of children suffering from type 1 and 2 diabetes, he said that parents' awareness of the early symptoms and how to take care of them on a daily basis plays a decisive role in preventing complications and maintaining the future health of children.

According to Public Relations of the Iranian Children's Doctors Association, Dr. Ali Faraji, a specialist in pediatric diseases and a member of the board of directors of the Iranian Children's Doctors Association, referring to the alarming increase in diabetes cases among children, said: Diabetes is no longer limited to adults, and in recent years, the number of cases in children and adolescents, especially type 1, has been on the rise.

Emphasizing the necessity of early diagnosis, he added: symptoms such as constant thirst, frequent urination, sudden weight loss, unusual fatigue, and blurred vision are important signs of diabetes in children, which unfortunately are sometimes ignored by parents. A delay in diagnosis can cause diabetic ketoacidosis, which is a dangerous and life-threatening complication.

The member of the board of directors of the Iranian Children's Doctors Association went on to say that the role of families in controlling and caring for sick children is very vital and said: educating parents about proper diet, regular monitoring of blood sugar and how to properly treat children can significantly improve the quality of life of these patients. An informed family is the first and most important care link for a child with diabetes.

He also pointed out: In cases of type 2 diabetes, lifestyle changes from childhood - including healthy eating, regular physical activity and reducing consumption of sugary foods and industrial drinks - can prevent the disease. Bad nutritional habits and lack of physical activity are the cause of the disease at a young age.

According to Dr. Faraji, the purpose of holding National Diabetes Week is to increase public awareness and sensitize the society to the importance of prevention, early diagnosis and continuous care.

In the end, he emphasized: diabetes in children can be controlled if diagnosed on time and treatment principles are followed, and a healthier future can be created for these children with proper education of families.
